Service Alert EU - Severe Weather

A severe weather event is affecting wide parts of Europe, driven by a persistent Arctic cold snap and connected weather systems such as Storm Goretti. This has led to heavy snow, ice formation, freezing temperatures, and associated transport disruptions across multiple regions of the continent.

Weather & Regional Impacts

Northern & Western Europe (High Impact)

  • Ongoing heavy snow, ice, and sub-zero conditions in parts of France, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, the UK, Scandinavia, and the Low Countries.
  • Severe cold and snow have caused transport interruptions, power outages, and elevated travel hazards.

Central Europe

  • Snow and freezing conditions reported in Germany, Czechia, Poland, Austria and neighbouring states, with flight delays, rail restrictions and hazardous roads.

Northern Europe Deep Freeze

  • Extreme cold in Finland and the Baltic states has forced flight cancellations and travel advisories. Temperatures have plunged well below typical seasonal norms (-37°C in Finland).

Eastern & Southeast Europe

  • Blizzard warnings and heavy snow affecting parts of the Balkans and Eastern EU, with potential for further travel disruption.

Logistics & Carrier Impacts

Road Transport

  • Icy and snowy roads causing hazardous driving conditions, slower speeds, and increased risk of incidents.
  • Several regions advise postponing non-essential travel due to slippery surfaces.

Air Transport

  • Major hubs across EU reporting flight cancellations and delays due to snow accumulation, de-icing constraints, and reduced visibility (e.g., Schiphol, Paris CDG/Orly, Frankfurt).

Rail Services

  • Disruptions and cancellations impacting both regional and long-distance rail, especially in northern Germany and across international routes.

Last-Mile Carriers

  • Delays and failed delivery attempts increasing due to hazardous road networks.
  • Some local carriers are operating at reduced capacity or adjusting schedules to prioritise safety.
  • Rural and less accessible areas are particularly affected.

Expected Service Impacts

  • Delivery SLA delays across impacted EU regions ( expect delays between 2 to 3 days )
  • Route cancellations or reassignments in hazardous weather zones
  • Extended lead times for parcels and freight, especially along north-south and central EU corridors

We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and carrier performance across Europe and will advise on any changes or further impacts as the situation evolves.
